"here" is your instance or the Fediverse?

In the latter it depends on the instance you choose.

As an example, I access the Fediverse through a Friendica instance and whenever you interact (like or comment) a message in a thread you get notified for other replies.

It's a configuration you can change if you don't like receiving too many notifications.

@max I was mostly meaning my instance. For now I'm on mas.to, but I will move if there is a good reason.

I initially decided against Friendica for other reasons (I'm not an expert). Not married to mastodon either (also not an expert).

My question is specifically about following particular threads _without_ replying. Thread level configurable notifications on like seems would cover what I need indeed. 🙏

Once Friendica has some unrelated bits sorted, I should probably give it another go.

Just yesterday i wrote a post (unfortunately it's an Italian, I should have written in English...) about differences between Friendica and Mastodon.

I have an account on Friendica since I joined the Fediverse (anyway less than a year ago) and created another one few weeks ago on Mastodon to have a look at it, as it is the most widespread platform. I do feel much more at ease with Friendica so I was asking, in the above post, why so many people choose Mastodon.

You could be a right person to tell me 😁

@max I doubt that I am going to give you a lot of useful information, but that, I expect, is typical for the target audience.

The main reason is for me accessibility.

While Friendica has better UX for a sighted person with decent hardware, when there is limits on that it breaks down faster than mastodon (vague, I know, but there's lots of details that others have described better).

A second reason is more personal/arbitrary: character limits. (cont…)

@max I feel uncomfortable having to split this post in two halves, yet it feels fair that when I interact with others, I intentionally apply the same limitations to myself as are applied to them.

Low character limits force me to spend more attention to being brief and clear. This results in my case in more readable posts as I can be quite wordy and I'm a fast sloppy typer. Were off-topic now, and hese points on character limits are subjective, so maybe you should do a poll?
