Hidden Camera Build Proves You Can’t Trust Walnuts
Typically, if you happened across a walnut lying about, you might consider eating it or throwing it to a friendly squirrel. However, as [Penguin DIY] demonstrates, it’s perfectly possible to turn the humble nut into a clandestine surveillance device. It turns out the walnut worriers were right all along.
The build starts by splitting and hollowing out the walnut. From there, small holes are machined into the mating faces of the walnut, into which [Penguin DIY] glues small neodymium magnets. These allow the walnut to be opened and snapped shut as desired, while remaining indistinguishable from a regular walnut at a distance.
The walnut shell is loaded with nine tiny lithium-polymer cells, for a total of 270 mAh of battery capacity at 3.7 volts. Charging the cells is achieved via a deadbugged TP4056 charge module to save space, with power supplied via a USB C port. Holes are machined in the walnut shell for the USB C port as well as the camera lens, though one imagines the former could have been hidden purely inside for a stealthier look. The camera itself appears to be an all-in-one module with a transmitter built in, with the antenna installed in the top half of the walnut shell and connected via pogo pins. The video signal can be picked up at a distance via a receiver hooked up to a smart phone. No word on longevity, but the included batteries would probably provide an hour or two of transmission over short ranges if you’re lucky.

@macfranc @news Per quello che mi riguarda, un'interfaccia conversazionale solo bambinocentrica, è una truffa. Tu se sei un bot che risponde, devi rispondere a tutte le domande che ti faccio. Per cui, se io voglio capire se il mio contatto mi ha mandato un fumetto che fa ridere o la foto del proprio pene, me lo devi dire che quello è un pene umano. O se anche è un fumetto che fa ridere, e parla di sesso, non mi devi dire che ti rifiuti di leggermelo perché ci sono termini sessuali; io non ci vedo, e un bot/ausilio dovrebbe descrivere quello che vede, non filtrarlo a seconda dei pregiudizi di chi lo produce. Già ne ho abbastanza degli umani che descrivono le cose a metà e ci mettono in mezzo i giudizi, dalla tech specie se pago pretendo di più.
Il mio punto di vista non è fra l'altro solo di una cieca informatizzata ma quello di una creator che scrive di HIV, scrive di crime, se non vogliono parlarmi di sesso, i conversazionali intelligenti, dovrebbero andare direttamente dal virus e dirgli: "HIV, puoi cambiare metodo di trasmissione per favore? Puoi trasmetterti col casto bacio sulla guancia? Già la lingua in bocca sarebbe troppo. Sai, i miei producer non vogliono che parlo di altro!" [SARCASMO]
Non fraintendetemi; io non sono una di quelle persone che si fanno scrivere le storie dai conversazionali. Li uso principalmente per mettere in ordine le idee che ho già scritto ma soprattutto per tradurre in italiano o in inglese quello che per qualunque ragione non riesco a fare in autonomia; sinceramente, sentirmi dire ogni 3x2 "mi spiace, non posso continuare con questa narrazione", ha iniziato a darmi parecchio fastidio. E le uso anche per descrivere informazioni altrimenti solo visive.
Io voglio provarla quando esce 'sta cosa per gli adulti, non per porno ma come attivista.
Poi, per quanto riguarda i companion, quelli usati per compagnia erotica e no? Consiglio di leggere un report, una storia, che ha condiviso Timnit Gebru, ex ricercatrice Google, ora fondatrice del DAIR (Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research) institute, licenziata da Google proprio dopo aver messo in guardia sui pericoli dell'abuso dei modelli linguistici di grandi dimensioni.
