I was really looking forward to getting a @frameworkcomputer laptop, now I'm glad we found out the duck was a Nazi before I got one.

@oblomov @frameworkcomputer I've been given names of several companies with similar alleged aims. Only one passed scrutiny from me, and that was definitely not framework.
I guess they don't actually want our money. -

@oblomov I have the one remaining company in my bookmarks somewhere, I'll look for it.

@oblomov OK, the only one passing my initial scrutiny was @tuxedocomputers - I haven't checked recently, but you might want to have a look and form your own opinion anyway.
I think they ship from Germany, so no particular difficulty getting things to Italy (or to France, in my case). -

@oblomov@sociale.network @Uilebheist@polyglot.city @tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online it's not a direct competitor to #framework or @tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online , but @PINE64@fosstodon.org has always passed my vibe-check too.

@danso @PINE64 @tuxedocomputers @oblomov On a quick look, it passes mine too.
But I'm not convinced by Linux on ARM, and as for RISC-V, it's much better but I found things which don't work on it (yet). So for me it would be a "take note, but not now". -

No, pine64 devices are not playing in the same league as #framework or @tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online at all. They're closer to being "toys for tinkerers" than productivity machines.
That said, I bought a PineTab2 and (now that hackers have got the wifi working) it's actually serviceable, especially at its price.
PS: Sorry @pine64@treehouse.systems , I linked the old fediverse account... leaving fosstodon for treehouse.systems certainly is a green flag.

I am already familiar with the @pine64 products (bought the “double PineTime” kit) and yeah, I'm a big fan of the company and their products, but they are definitely not the kind of products that I'd look for to replace my current laptop.
