Setting aside obvious moral issues, as a matter of resistance strategy, assassination of fascist influencers who don’t actually pull any levers of power is incredibly stupid.

Apparently the shooter is also a fascist who felt that the victim was too left wing. So helping the fascists is a major motivation.

@celesteh That is not what I’m seeing in the news. According the the A.P., “Ammunition found with the weapon was engraved with taunting, anti-fascist and meme culture messages, including one bullet casing that said, ‘Hey, fascist! Catch!’ Cox said.” What are the sources for your information?

@Rachel_Thorn @celesteh the source I've been reading (in Italian: ilpost.it/2025/09/14/cosa-non-…) says that we still don't know: he has not told anything about his motivations (yet), his parents are republican (no source, but afaik that's common knowledge by now?) so he probably grew up conservative, but may have changed ideas, and all the memes on the bullets are widespread in various gamers communities of both political sides, so aren't proof of anything either.
anything else seems to be either internet speculation or people with an interest in promoting one narrative over the other
