Please do not reply to posts on our server with **off-topic** fundraiser requests. This is spamy and can feel inconsiderate.
You can post about a fundraiser on your own thread, you can bring it up in context. But, a pattern of "replies" that make no reference to what they are responding to asking for donations, or advertising a shop etc. will be considered spam.
(I'm happy to get feedback on this call, but I've also thought about it for a long time and think it's fair.)

@futurebird that's kind of the dictionary definition of spam

Spam is the easiest way to earn a suspension or ban on this server. Mostly because it's easier to spot. If you have concerns about moderation send me a DM. I'm a volunteer but I read everything ya'll report and take it seriously.

IMHO, your approach is completely reasonable. I'm not a moderator, but I do report toots like these for fake engagement.

@futurebird Seconded wholeheartedly. If you knocked on my door unsolicited to sell me something IRL, I'd send you away immediately. Same thing here.

We are still in halcyon days of moderation in this space. It's been mostly easy thus far. I hope that the general rejection of advertising will keep it that way, but as the space grows we may need to think about these issues more.
