1/ Bivy on top of Mt Baldy tonight. Came up from Wrightwood on the north backbone trail over Wright Mt, Pine Mt, and Dawson Peak before Baldy's north bowl. Afternoon/evening hike, was in the dark since Dawson Peak. Nice full moon lighting up all the snow though. It's been real nice, zero wind, clear, and only low of 45F tonight.

@jds I haven't been up there in over 20 years. Beautiful view but holy cow that's a lot of light pollution!

Looks beautiful! When I saw your bivy all laid out , it looked so cozy that it made me sleepy. 😅 -
@jds I haven't been up there in over 20 years. Beautiful view but holy cow that's a lot of light pollution!
@jasaz oh yeah in every direction. The phone does some automatic night mode enhancing that exaggerates it as well

2/ afternoon shots on the way over Pine mountain with Dawson peak to the left next in line and Baldy, the destination for the night behind. Great views, the sun set when I got up Dawson.

3/ sunset on Dawson Peak, the last summit on the route to Baldy. Took a break, layered up, and put my light on. Dropped down to the saddle in post sunset dusk, then up Baldy after dark with the moon. City lights up on Baldy.

@jds Ooh, smart, that route. I assume you avoided the death trap on Devil's Backbone?

@ai6yr yeah, this route arrives directly at the summit from the north 'rib'. It has its own considerations though. There's multiple steep, north facing ridges that don't get much winter traffic.

4/ a handful of hikers arrived at the summit before sunrise. Nice warm colors. I hung out for a while then started heading back.

I don't think it breaks expectations.
It's also the way most social networks work. If the OP posts privately, all the comments and replies to comments are visible to *all* the OP's followers.
This is how Facebook, Instagram, and X all work.
They let you have private conversations with people that matter to you. It's one of the best parts of those platforms.

@nina_kali_nina For researching things like this, it's unfortunate that no search engine lets you easily say "give me results in ALL languages, I'll figure it out, don't worry". Even DDG with the country switch off seems to filter by rough region/language based on GeoIP, at least until you reach the second page of results.

Yes. That's equivalent to Alice setting their post followers only, and Bob setting their post public, but less confusing to the user.
(Edit: realized you hadn't said what Bob's visibility was set to. Anyway: UI quibbles aside, the answer is that you intersect the people who are able to view)

@nina_kali_nina It's more just luck that my country speaks one of the 2 languages whose Wikipedia mentions this fact :) Here in Germany, putting "ubuntu morphix" into any search engine naturally shows this Wikipedia article as one of the top results, and at least DDG even highlights the relevant sentence in the text preview.
