I saw these mushrooms and went through the linked guide to identify them as polyporus brumalis. But then my ID app said it was lentinus brumalis and I was a little disappointed I had gotten it wrong. But then I looked up polyporus brumalis and it redirected to lentinus brumalis. I thought one of the reasons for "scientific names" was to avoid the problem of multiple common names?
