  • @aizuchi @kevingamin @alice oh, but, also guitarists, like synth players, like physical knobs for everything. One pedal per function fits in a guitar players brain better than buttons and inscrutable little LCD screens with pages of options and a computer or phone app.

I mostly use regular single function pedals and tube amps, even though I know I could get less noise and more effects from a multi-effects unit or amp for a lot less money.

Monkey brain likes what it likes.

  • @aizuchi @kevingamin @alice I mean, the amps are still a little limited by their budget. It costs money to make high quality physical stuff, like a speaker. But, even that's gotten better over the years, and their current and previous generations sound quite good.

Another element is a whole generation of players started on a Line 6 back when they weren't so great, so they feel like they have to "graduate" to more expensive stuff. But, it wouldn't pain me to gig a Line 6 Spider or a Catalyst.

  • @aizuchi @kevingamin @alice a bunch of reasons. It's always been a value brand rather than a boutique brand...there was a time when "low cost" and "quality" didn't really fit together in a digital multi-effect unit. The early POD and Spider models sounded pretty cheesy. But, compute keeps getting cheaper, so they can cram really powerful DSP into cheap devices now, and they've gotten better at the software and modeling side in the 30 years they've been doing it (again, they were very early).

  • @hub Maybe @evan or @cheeaun can comment on what I observed? I love learning about these things.

  • @hub Yeah.

I knew the edits were recorded/visible, I just found it interesting to see one played back "live". Up until now, I've only seen it update slowly like replies etc come in.

I'd be interesting in knowing how it happens (does the client stay connected to my server and the server offers up edited updates when such a connection is maintained?).

So, gonna #AskFedi, specifically those #FreeBSD users who #PlayOnBSD...Has anyone had an issue with Yamagi #Quake II (yquake2) launching with sounds and everything, but no window or game video of any kind showing up? Been having this issue since 14.3 and now with 15.0. I've already played around with the "+set vid_renderer" options and no dice.Thank in advance! #Quake2

A question for #OpenStreetMap mappers. There is a mall in my city, which I'm using a lot and it was not mapped properly, since 2019 I think — there are a lot of non-existent amenities, a lot of new amenities don't exist on the map, and a lot of POI placed semi-randomly.I tried to fix it "on foot" by editing and moving amenities, but it is not very easy for me with Every Door application and without JOSM (and without the big screen with a big keyboard) .So, I think about to take the official website of the mall, which has the actual information about all the stores inside and about their position inside the building — and fix the #OSM map for this mall. But I unable to find — is it legal (in terms of OSM) to use this external source of information (floor plans for mall visitors) in OSM mapping?#AskFedi

@TazPoltorak @Bfordham some toy machines cheat by only being able to make a chain stitch instead of the lockstitch used by modern¹ machines: those aren't really sewing machines, they can't be used to follow instructions designed for sewing machines and I'd recommend staying away from them even as a “starting” machine, because they really aren't one.the main issue being that the chain stitch unravels, and using it to make functional garments will require a lot more handsewing and different techniques that those used today.as the first sewing machine ever built, they were time saver when sewing meters and meters of ruffles on a 1850s dress, when you were used to sew 1840s dresses by hand, but really, sewing machine technology has moved on :)¹ i.e. since the second half of the 19th century :D

What does Mastodon recommend for learning Japanese? I spent over 100 days in Duolingo but got tried about talking about math tests and kind teachers. #AskMastodon #AskFedi #japan
