What is the ideal length of a video on a topic you enjoy? So not music, or ambient stuff.
I know that there are some people who I will click on a one hour or three hour video for... but if it's just based on "interesting topic" and a peek at how long it is what do you look for?

My YouTube habits are usually to skip anything over 20, except with a few specific channels that I know are going to be interesting & funny throughout. I know who rambles, & who keeps it moving, you know? -

I used to follow a guy with a steam powered machine shop. Fascinating stuff. But dude talks so slow. Figured out I could watch at 1.75x speed, and then he sounded like a normal person. LOL -

@futurebird It depends on the presenter! If they're not particularly engaging, under half an hour even if I enjoy the topic. If they're particularly engaging it can be over an hour on basically any topic.
But I answered the poll based on 'what's the longest video I'd click on a subject I'm interested in by an unknown agent', which is 30–45 mins.

@futurebird highly dependent on the topic and the presenter. Some folks just ramble on for wayyyyy too long, and their videos feel like a waste of time. Other folks (e.g. Folding Ideas) can crank out multi hour masterpieces. I love synths, almost no synth video longer than 15 minutes is worth your time.

(I don't know what that is in Vines).

@futurebird 20-30 minutes. Because that's how long it takes me to eat lunch.
That's 20-30 minutes of real time. Depending on the video, I might use a browser plugin to crank the playback up to 2.5x. In that case an hour video would be acceptable.

@futurebird 30-45 minutes unless your name is Cathode Ray Dude. Then I'll watch an hour and a half on a topic I wasn't interested in when I started

@futurebird as long as I can return to it later I have no preferred length. When that is not the case I want them to not be longer than the time I have for watching at this exact moment.

@futurebird I really like long videos about my favourite topics. I will definitely go “yes! score” if I find an hour+ long video from some of my most watched content creators.
It might depend on the subject though. If I need a quick instruction on some technique or other, I might go for the short one, but otherwise I’m up for a long, infodumping story.
I hate scrolling for something new to watch.

@futurebird if it's something I'm interested in I will probably *eventually* watch it
my sweet spot is right between the first two options, between 10 and 20 minutes, and shorts-length (< 2 min?) is usually not really enough to enjoy it, but really, anything below 1 hour is fine, and stuff that is longer than 1 hour, but looks really interesting, may get split between more sessions, but still watched.

@davew It’s been a mixed bag for me but mostly leans towards success. :) As suggested above, maintaining context with the tools is the key factor.
Sometimes, responses to follow-up prompts often include snippets of code that, while correct, can sometimes be hard to see where they need to be applied as a change/addition/subtraction. I find myself prompting to, “Please provide the complete implementation with this update included.” and that (almost always) works.
It does feel magical,
though. 🪄

@BoydStephenSmithJr @afreytes it's been some time since I last needed to share data, and in my days NTFS was “workable, but don't depend on it too much”, and vfat had the 4GB file limit. And of course forget about keeping the Unix permissions on either.

@davew My personal experience is only with Claude Code so far, and with it, the current state of things is to first have it make a plan that also details its “understanding” of the code base. That then you can edit and adapt, and only then let it make actual changes. You can even use different models for the different tasks and my configuration specifies to think hard on the planning phase (using more context).

@oblomov @afreytes IIRC, NTFS is writable from both, and relatively robust.
vfat also works, and that's what I use for USB drives shared between the systems.
I didn't dual boot long enough to find having a shared partition compelling. These days, with the way MS treats shared resources (boot sector, ESP, EFI entries / variables, etc.), I'd be concerned that MS Win would "screw up" any shared filesystem / partition.
