I'm 61, I've been writing for 45 years, and I have nearly 35 novels in print; how recent is "recent"?
Most recent was realizing I could write a two-POV novel with four interleaved periods (reincarnation is involved), writing the flashbacks and alternating viewpoints in linear book-reading-order, without much effort. The hard part was shoehorning a unicorn v. velociraptor fight into a space opera!

@cstross amateur. I am writing (I have to) a Department Three-Year Plan (CS Department). And project reviews for a funding agency. I am sure the Laundry has such literature in some of its closets. 😑 🙄

@zygoloid most people most of the time don't understand the enum rules in c, and even less so in c++.
Just the fact that assigning integer values to enum values is commonplace should tell us that!
This is pretty spectacular tho, I did not know about this.

@royaards@newsie.social It does make sense for how our small community-geared (as in "small communities, not "small and also communities") brains work. X amount of deaths in a far-off country we are powerless to do anything about doesn't move the needle because it's too abstract. Prices that we pay though, that's immediate and does affect how we react.
It is horrible, we need to do more but there's learned helplessness, fear of retribution should you try to fight back and good ol' "I'm alright, Jack" logic among other things, it's not making excuses but highlighting the things we need to overcome.

@sinituulia I don't have balance problems (yet, my mom has them and I suppose at some point I will get there as well) but I do wear (long) skirts and dresses on my very normal bike. I don't even have a skirt guard on my bike, so far I haven't missed it.
