Git won because Linux used it, and you can rebase and force push.
Also. Everything else was fragile, a performance nightmare, or both.
It won for being “good enough.”

@Elizafox git has improved. i remember the days when you had to use a different frontend entirely, called cogito.
this is why atheme used mercurial for so long.
