@solonovamax it's colonialist language we ought to be purging. noone is superior to anyone.

@dysfun @solonovamax "master of one's craft" is what i'm thinking of. mastery. masterclass. don't see anything gross about that. the german word is "meister" (note the shared etymology), and really just means that, and has never meant "boss guy" (though colloquially, in the context of craftsmanship - the counterpart is the apprentice)

@dysfun @solonovamax "some racists in a small part of the world that thinks it is the entire world used a thing very wrong once and now we can't all use the thing anymore" - i really hope racists never figure that one out because then they'll just lick everything once and then everything just smells like trauma forever and we can't use anything anymore

@lritter @dysfun @solonovamax the specific etymology here is master/slave because it originally stems from a master/slave replica relationship, e.g., it's a pre-git database terminology. the racists do like to lick things but this is like. this one is not an op

@lritter @dysfun @solonovamax i am not a git user, i access git through mercurial and a bridge, and i name my main branches "stable" (the branch corresponding to the last official release) and "unstable" (the current wip/next-version development branch). this is both clearer and more useful than the branching conventions used by git users and i don't understand why anyone does things differently from me

@mcc @lritter @dysfun @solonovamax i like to name the root branch `excelsior` in all of my projects because it makes it feel more exciting
