@liaizon Part of why the fediverse so appeals to me so much is that fedi *can* be made to coexist with nearly any given social form that people may choose to take part in. The state, commercial interests, even socially repressive cults and abusive family relationships can in theory exist within a federated model. They just need to have genuine public support and be robust to independent criticism.
It forces every person taking part, to realize that society is, and always has been *their own* responsibility. -

It seems to me that the Overton window has been shifting to the right constantly since the Reagan era, and it has worsened in the latest two decades. There hasn't been a leftist on mainstream US TV for half a century. Printed media isn't much better, you have to look for very specific outlets like Jacobin in order to get anything left of billionaire bootlicking.
