Surely military coups can be more of a spectrum than merely binary, no? One needn't go full-Monty, assassinate the leaders and have a Generalissimo install himself as leader-for-life.
I mean, a military could just remove the secretary of defense, president, maybe a few others for specific crimes/constitutional violations. Could have them stand military trials and demand legislators try again with different people?
Just seeding some ideas out there for rogue failed states to consider.
