@distortiondoll best bet would be to start by searching for relevant hashtags, that will at least help you find people with the same interests AND that use hashtags 8-D (from there it should be possible to browse through contacts and threads to find more)

@oblomov @distortiondoll Indeed, I follow primarily hashtags, and that keeps my feed quite full by itself. Sprinkle in interesting people that you stumble upon, and also I tend to return follows to people who follow me (unless they predominantly post in a language I don't speak).

@oblomov @distortiondoll The great thing about hashtags is you can test their popularity by typing them in a test post. They have a “used recently” count. Example: “#Dog” (192) it is used way more often than “#doggo” (4).
Note: use rate numbers are snapshots in the moment. Specific ones, like “#FensterFreitag” (166), will show significantly higher use rates on their assigned day; in this case, Friday.
Welcome! Enjoy soaking in your chosen communities until you get all pruney!

@semiotic_pirate @distortiondoll the limiting factor is that these stats are “locally federated”, i.e. they refer to posts that got federated to your instance. Smaller servers will only see a fraction of the actual usage

@oblomov @distortiondoll Is it limiting - for following or pinning purposes - if you’re only going to be seeing posts from that tag that are federated on your instance?

@semiotic_pirate @distortiondoll I mean limiting in the sense that you won't find all tagged posts. Is the topics you're interested in are uncommon, this may lead to people with shared interests not finding each other, which may be frustrating. It would be nice if there were ways to crawl the whole Fediverse to find relevant posts
