There are of course Credit Unions in Ireland. Yes, you can lodge money and get loans. They are not suitable for my use case.
The Irish An Post (State Post Office) has banking but they discontinued any access on the Web site and also required quite recent versions of Android (or iOS), several years ago.

Idk. I miss the "CyanogenMod era" of custom ROM's, Xposed framework, all that good stuff. Over the years I guess phone manufacturers did really make it hard to do stuff with phones. Bootloaders are locked and shit. Some phone and tablet models don't even have official custom ROMs

It absolutely makes sense as a response to the attack vector of tricking someone into installing malware by telling them to turn on developer mode, though.

@ziclaud oh god HyperOS, that one is a nightmare to try and unlock compared to MIUI. My condolences.

You need a 30-day old Mi Account, the Xiaomi Community App and have a Global device. CN devices running HyperOS can't be unlocked anymore, because phone unlocking is illegal in mainland China since 2022 when the government passed a decision to outlaw it.

And with it is the "quota reached" bug that requires you to apply for unlocking at midnight Beijing time. Hell, now you have to run some Python script or whatever, from a brief look through XDA Forums.

@grote aaaaaaa ,, this type of flow would be great for something that's extremely frequently abused by scammers and is only rarely used legitimately, but sideloading apps is way too common and useful for this type of flow to be justifiable for any stated reason they have (and of course, we all know what the real reason is)
