Had an encounter with reST, the reStructuredText from Python world, again today during a hackmeet.
And, well, while it's not entirely perfect, it's definitely a very well-engineeered mark-up language. In a better world, it should have easily gained dominance over the dirty-hack-upon-dirty-hack that is MarkDown, even in its CommonMark incarnation.

@riley TBF anything should have gained dominance over markdown. My favorite is Asciidoc
