@dillyd you: "This was so much fun! Do you want to try it?"
me:
-
(Talking to myself): "you walk to work in this weather. Why not ride? It'll be fine. You can do this. You can do this."
Husband: "sounds like you're trying to talk yourself into it."
Me: "of course. Did you see what it looks like outside?"Final result: easy peasy! Plus a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment. My first winter bike ride to work in snowy weather with snowy ground. I'm even getting used to the sensation of the tires sliding out sideways in the snow.
@dillyd love this! And envious of your goggles :D
But yes, it's really NOT THAT BAD and it's a few minutes each day where one has done something sensible. -

@dillyd my family is from northern Minnesota. My cousins taught me to beat nails through the knobs on my bike tires. They would do the same to their dirt bikes and race them on the ice.

@dillyd it’s a taste of freedom! A winter helmet (covers your ears), studded tires, and pogies for the really cold days :)

@dillyd that was me, every days, in the late nineties and early 2000.
But. Me mid 40s. Empathizes with you. Yup. All that gear is useful. It was hurting the face without any protection other than a acarf for my then 18y.o. body

@renoirb the right gear, the right tools, and everything is doable.

@dillyd hell yeah! I did a little winter riding this year but after falling on the ice and spraining my thumb I've kept it to days when there isn't ice on the roads. Next fall I'll probably invest in some studded tires and learn how to put them on myself so I'm not limited by ice

@trainguyrom
The studded tires are definitely essential. Sorry about your thumb.
