Uh-oh! I'm definitely in for a surprise today: The sun burns the fog away and look what awaits me at Lemvig station! A "Lynette" railbus from 1983! 😍
They are currently phased out, I didn't know for sure if some of them do still run. Apparently, they do. 🥰

I have been here before on last year's #DanskDiesel trip, but we didn't get a decent photo as it was raining. Which really bothered me afterwards. And this is now the very last chance! To give you an impression of how much of a close call this is: Apparently, H.M. the King will inaugurate the new battery trains this Friday (!) and there will be a little farewell ceremony for the Lynette. Phew!

Off we go. Again, there's nobody in my carriage, as we trundle through the empty landscapes. The diesel engine hums quietly and the heating radiates that cosy and slightly too warm heat, that you only find in old trains. Absolutely perfect! 🥰 This alone was worth the trip.

On the walk to what looked like a possible photo spot from the train, the last bits of fog vanished just as I started taking pictures of it. As if I disturbed the fog demons...

I have no idea why I can't get enough of it. Is it, because I'm from a rather crowded, landlocked country?

The sun's gone, but here's the new kid on the block! Seven of these angry birds..., no, wait, I mean: Siemens Mireo battery-electric units will take over the Holstebro-Skjern (65km) and Vemb-Thyborøn (55km) lines very soon. That will not only cascade the Lynettes out, but very probably also the Desiros.

Back at Victoria Street Station. The tags inside the little hut tell teenage summer love stories from endless holidays in the many summer cottages around here.🥹 But summer feels somehow light years away right now in December grey. I requested the stop and the train takes me back to Lemvig.

Full house at Lemvig and a closer look at the charging infrastructure. ⚡
Impressive that a little railway with about 6 trains does the whole testing and builds the know-how for the whole industry and what will maybe become a nationwide programme. But also sensible, as this is an isolated line with track and train in one hand.

But... Look at the huge difference in size! 😳
And this translates directly to weight: A Mireo (93t) is about 50% heavier than a Lynette (63t). I really hope that they did consider, what that means in terms of permanent way maintenance on a light line like this. 😬

This was a good choice for a place to stay. Holstebro is a lovely und relaxed city with a lot of shops, restaurants and a conveniently located railway station. 🥰 Better than staying in one of the totally deserted holiday villages at the coast.

The battery train is on a test run. A rehearsal for tomorrows VIP shuttle with the King? I hope, they'll have better weather for the Batteritogsfest.
I, for my part, now also have a plan for the next few days, for which I need to be in Germany tonight. Which is, why I take the next train North.

And, surprise, another Lint works the train to Aarhus. At least we make good progress here, unlike on the slower lines along the west coast. And Jylland is really empty around here. 😊
