The latest two paintings are now with the framer, so I get to celebrate. Trying out linocut for the first time since my childhood. Turns out that I don't have the right kind of ink for printing, and that means I go back to the art supply store tomorrow! #arttherapy #MastoArt #linocut #printmaking

At the top, U.S.-China tensions run hot. Inside government offices, things look familiar. A new analysis shows bureaucrats on both sides respond to the same pressures and manage difficulties in similar ways.https://theconversation.com/2-superpowers-1-playbook-why-chinese-and-us-bureaucrats-think-and-act-alike-266305

đŸ”„ take: Mozilla’s challenge isn’t leadership or AI. Virtually no one wants to “browse” or to have a “browser”. They want to search, scroll, or use a webapp—if they think about the renderer’s UX something has gone wrong. So as long as Moz self-identifies as a “browser company”, they’ll lose.

Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, and disaster research that has underpinned half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, and increased resilience. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/12/16/trump-dismantle-national-center-atmospheric-research-climate/87798771007

Fundamentally, a boundary is a clear line between you and others. So yes, that can look like setting limits on how you will be treated. And yes, that can look like not internalizing others’ expectations of you (real or not). But it *also* looks like not imposing your expectations on others. It also looks like not policing others’ feelings, experiences, values, and behaviors.

it's truly amazing what LLMs can achieve. we now know it's possible to produce an html5 parsing library with nothing but the full source code of an existing html5 parsing library, all the source code of all other open source libraries ever, a meticulously maintained and extremely comprehensive test suite written by somebody else, 5 different models, a megawatt-hour of energy, a swimming pool full of water, and a month of spare time of an extremely senior engineer

Memory at the Speed of LightLook inside a science fiction computer, and you’ll probably see tubes and cubes that emit light. Of course, it’s for effect, but the truth is, people do think light computing may be the final frontier of classical computing power. Engineers at the University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute and the University of Wisconsin-Madison are showing off a workable photonic latch — a memory element that uses light. The device uses a commercial process (GlobalFoundries (GF) Fotonix Silicon Photonics platform) and, like a DRAM, regenerates periodically to prevent loss of the memory contents. On the device, you’ll find a combination of tiny photodiodes, micro-ring resonators, and optical waveguides. Simulations show the memory element can operate at 20 GHz and might even be readable at 50 or 60 GHz.If you want to dive deeper, the work is based on a paper from earlier in the year.hackaday.com/2025/12/16/memory

it sucks that the only real browser options currently are firefox and its forks, different flavors of chromium, and safari if you're in the apple ecosystemif you're keen on something different, consider giving servo a boost - it's still in early dev but it'll be refreshing to have a new browser engine up and about https://servo.org/

I made oatmeal raisin cookies. Or, rather, a giant single cookie that I had to cut into 24 irregular pieces. They taste great, though!

When they said FreeBSD 15 was now easier to install, they weren’t wrong. Here it is up and running on a Lenovo Thinkpad. Wifi works, trackpad works, setting up X11 was easy. Pretty impressed really. #freebsd

@atarifrosch @activitypub.blog @about.iftas.org There’s no intention to exclude ClassicPress. Our resources are limited, so we don’t actively test with it, but I’m happy to fix issues when possible... or, even better, merge PRs that resolve them.
