@annasdtc @tschfflr @simon_on_energy One of the really insulting ones I saw was one of absense -- talking about how some crime numbers or something thereabouts had almost doubled since last year, with a two-column bar graph showing the two numbers---- and neglecting to show the previous few years, which showed that last year in particular was surprisingly low and this year was much more in-line with the general trend.

@asilata worse, when I was a PhD student and was invited to submit an invited paper I was able to write the paper but due to family issues I couldn't travel to present it. I asked if my (senior, much more established, female) PhD supervisor could go and present in my stead, and the response I got was "We really would prefer if you went, and not your student."

@Artemis201 I think the moment this solidified to me was when I, an undergrad, asked a tired grad student why something worked the way it did, and got back without a hint of humor, 'Spite. Look, it's as good of a reason as you're going to get, so just go with spite.'
