New here on Mastodon, here's an illustration I made back in 2023. I'm fond of this recent artistic/literary movement that academics are calling Malaysian Chinese Domestic Gothic, although I'm not too fond of the name due to the implications that it's merely an "ethnic" twist to the western Goth aesthetic.Ghost stories have followed me since primary school; as rowdy students would whisper about how our Malaysian Chinese vernacular schools were built upon mass graves. We called the spirits ah piao（阿飘）- the ones who drift. And as a child, I was drawn to the taboo, as I knew how it felt to be rejected by peers for no reason other than existing as I am.#art #digitalart #mastoart #originalart
