Dear Fedi friends,I just hit "publish" on my blog post "A newbie's guide to #selfhosting with #YunoHost. Part 1: reasons + requirements". It's here if you wanna read it:🔗: https://blog.elenarossini.com/a-newbies-guide-to-self-hosting-with-yunohost-part-1-reasons-requirements/This guide is intended for true newbies who are curious about self-hosting some essential digital services. I'm hoping to dispel some myths about self-hosting and make it appear accessible to all. Well, at least to people curious about it but hesitant to get started because they think it's too complicated. That was me up to a year ago.Special thanks and shout-out to @ilja for setting my journey in motion. And eternal gratitude to @yunohost for the way they are empowering us all with the tools to self-host#MySoCalledSudoLife #blog #BigTech #rebellion #digitalsovereignty #NextCloud

Destroying Autocracy – December 04, 2025Welcome to this week’s “Destroying Autocracy”.It’s your source for curated news affecting democracy in the cyber arena with a focus on protecting it. That necessitates an opinionated Butlerian jihad against big tech as well as evangelizing for open-source and the Fediverse. Since big media’s journalism wing is flailing and failing in its core duty to democracy, this is also a collection of alternative reporting on the eternal battle between autocracy and democracy. We also cover the cybersecurity world. You can’t be free without safety and privacy.FYI, my opinions will be in bold. And will often involve cursing. Because humans. Especially tech bros. And fascists. Fuck ’em.The Programmer’s Fulcrum is the future (and smaller) home for a fusion of Symfony Station and Battalion. Its tagline is Devs Defending Democracy, Developing the OMN.You can sign up now and for 2025 get an email with links to each week’s Symfony Station Communiqué and Battalion “Destroying Autocracy” post along with their featured articles. And you’ll be set with TPF after the fusing in January. We are posting on the Fediverse now at @thefulcrum @thefulcrum.dev and original website content will start next month.Featured Item(s)Hamish Campbell writes:ActivityPub is a shared vocabulary, a public language for moving meaning and connection across the open web. It gives you nouns and verbs, and the community defines the grammar through lived use. This is why the OMN works with ActivityPub, a metadata and meaning layer, not a platform, flows, not silos. ActivityPub is the widely deployed 4 Opens protocol that treats publishing as a flow, a conversation.Unlike the more vertical stacks (ATProto is a good example), ActivityPub doesn’t force a worldview. It doesn’t tell you, “this is how your network must be structured.” It doesn’t enforce hierarchy or lock you into one interpretation of identity, authority, or workflow. It’s a KISS path – here’s a shared language, verbs for publishing and receiving, express objects, updates, relationships. The rest is up to the commons. This flexibility is exactly why the OMN can become a part of this flow. Why the OMN works with ActivityPub – And why we need a bridge to p2pWe start and end with good news to make the middle bearable. The response to Russia’s War Crimes, Techno Feudalism, and other douchebaggeryDDEV has:Power Through Blackouts: How DDEV Community Helped Me in UkraineTechPolicy Press shares:How to Test New York’s Algorithmic Pricing LawThe EU’s Digital Omnibus Must Be Rejected by Lawmakers. @joel OMG this looks AMAZING! 🤩Is it compatible with iTunes or you use another software? I’m pretty big on playlists so I want to use something that enables them

@vkc thank you Veronica! 💛 Your video was really outstanding - you spoke so eloquently about this important issue. I’m basically sending it to everyone I know. And thank you for the kind offer about Jellyfin. I have already installed it via #YunoHost (which makes self-hosting so easy for us non devs). Now it’s just a matter of adding media to my library (I was away for 2 weeks because of French school holidays, so I’m excited to set it up today).Thank you for all you do and keep up the incredible work! ✨💫

⏰ Time to break free from Big Tech!On Oct 20, an AWS outage took down Slack, Zoom, Netflix - and even Tinder (RIP to all the would-be matches 😅). Signal, the privacy champ, wasn’t spared either.Big Tech controls 70% of Europe’s cloud. Do we really want them holding the off-switch?It’s time to build and support new options that put power in our hands. Ready to break free?👉 Read the full BBC article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0jdgp6n45po #BigTech

Apple doesn’t want you to know this 👇🔸 Fake privacy heroes: Apple markets privacy, then tracks you in the background.🔸 Tracking, rebranded: Apple collects your data for ads, but says it’s not “tracking”. 🔸 Hard to avoid: Opting out means digging through obscure settings.Full story: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/privacyhub/apple-privacy-violations/ #BigTech @gael @rikviergever @e_mydata

@ThePfromtheO@social.vivaldi.net @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net This means any fork needs to be branded as a different product. That's fine, Firefox is the same. And this new product then would become an immediate competitorA fork that uses the same codebase is not really a competitor. You can share code between forks, so it also benefits Vivaldi to have forks available. And if you maintain your software well and do what your users want, there would be no need for anyone to make a fork in the first place. These are not not valid reasons.

TikTok, Paramount, sistemi AI: Ellison costruisce un impero mediatico senza precedenti. Mentre Musk fa rumore, lui accumula potere reale: algoritmi social, reti TV, datacenter di sorveglianza. A 80 anni controlla cosa vedi e come ti comporti.

@_elena yeah I saw that option. I did something else: I use my profile to very clearly show that I have left LinkedIn in the hope more people might follow 😉
