@dwarmstrong immutable distros are funny, like it's not been possible to do the same thing since we loaded the OS from a 5.25" floppy and then eject.Lately, I've been booting a gentoo LiveISO into RAM, then tmpfs mounts for everything (this is on two hosts: 64GB & 2TB RAM). Critical data is rsync'd off-host. Uptime is 56 and 16 days respectively. The ISO is removed after use. It's kind of the lazy version of booting the OS over iSCSI or FCoE without using local drives.
