@dbat I'm using debian testing on my desktop to have all the new shiny stuff (including the tools used to develop debian itself, since I do a bit of that too)my mother's computer has debian stable, since she doesn't care for the newest stuff, and we both enjoy the fact that stuff don't change at random. It being released about every two years means that things will get somewhat old, usually a minimum of a few months old since package versions get mostly fixed when the freeze starts, some time before the release. The only exception are the two biggest browsers firefox and chromium, as those get updated to new upstream releases even in stableanother option that I've used mostly on servers, but I believe often works also on desktop is stable + backports, only installing the new versions of stuff that is actually used: not everything is available in backports, but a lot is, so you'd have to look (e.g. on packages.debian.org ) and see whether it has what you need.I'd personally avoid using flatpaks (and other sources of upstream-managed packages) for a number of reasons, but they are available tooI have no experience with nvidia drivers, I know people who run steam games (but I don't have experience with those either), and I've used two monitors with my laptop (internal + external) with no issues.I can't think of any downside that wouldn't be there also with other mainstream linux distribution
