@kernellogger that explains why some bug reports are flawed or mistaken. The reason some devs are distrustful or dismissive is usually ego and insecurity. Devs KNOW they're right, especially about decisions made, and therefore anyone correcting them or disagreeing is WRONG.The open-source code base is waist-deep with 'closed, won't do' bug reports and feature requests, and they're usually because a Dev has preemptively decided their way is better.

The @lwn article "The current state of #Linux architecture support" is now freely available: https://lwn.net/Articles/1045363/""There have been several recent announcements about Linux distributions changing the list of architectures they support, or adjusting how they build binaries for some versions of those architectures. With increasing concerns about diminishing support for legacy architectures, it's a good time to look at the overall state of architecture support on Linux. The 6.17 #kernel supports 21 different architectures […]""#LinuxKernel

Quick reminder on the likely reason why Valve's New Steam Machine only supports #HDMI 2.0:""At this time an open source HDMI 2.1 implementation is not possible without running afoul of the HDMI Forum requirements.""This is what Alex Deucher, the maintainer of the amdgpu #kernel driver, said one and a half years ago here:https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1417#note_2303163And from the ticket it looks like the problem remains.See also Alex's earlier comment from early 2021 in the ticket:https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1417#note_830547""HDMI 2.1 is not available on #Linux due to the HDMI Forum.""#LinuxKernel #Valve #SteamMachine
