Since NodeBB is an installable PWA it would be definitely nice to have it supported there as well.

I'm going to register a protocol handler, so links to anywhere on the fedi will be opened in the user's home instance.

Io però temo che le persone siano scoraggiate quando entrano nelle piccole istanze, perché fanno più fatica a trovare contenuti interessanti. Solo con il tempo e la pazienza si riesce a costruirsi la propria rete.. Invece con le istanze grandi hai subito una timeline molto ricca out of the box
