Just discovered it's totally possible to build custom live ISOs based on OpenIndiana/illumos/SunOS.​I've just built my first one: it runs like a primordial internal combustion engine for now, but it's the right path!​The goal? A minimalist CLI toolbox for Unix sysadmins (an OS I'm absolutely in love with). @firebreathingduck @stefano Yeah, first it was IBM, to the extreme there was even a slogan about it, "Never ever got fired for choosing IBM". Then Microsoft was the unwritten "We won't get fired if we make everything dependent upon Windows". Now it's Google/The Cloud/a handful of SaaS providers.I don't get it. Especially when the companies people are picking have gone from "Convenient alternative to doing it yourself" to "Company that's actively looking for ways to destroy your business".

@freezr @Larvitz I wouldn’t say it broke it. When new DB server is required as dependency then pkg manager shows that previous server will be removed. This is signal for admin to dump/transfer data to new server. It seems that this time user overlooked what pkg manager said it will do.Not sure how it is on other systems but on FreeBSD the package manger is not automagically transfer databases between servers when there is a major DB server update.

@pheonix That's nothing. We once had someone put their laptop in the fridge because "it was a bit warm". They left it in there overnight and couldn't work out why it didn't work the next morning. When I tried to recover her SSD, it had rusted in due to condensation.

Just spent way too long wrestling with a 400-line pf.conf and asymmetrical routing. 😵‍💫The culprit? Classic rule ordering. A slightly too broad rule (with quick) near the top was happily catching traffic and creating states without the reply-to option before my intended rule could even look at it.The packets were flowing, just... not back the right way.
