Just discovered it's totally possible to build custom live ISOs based on OpenIndiana/illumos/SunOS.​I've just built my first one: it runs like a primordial internal combustion engine for now, but it's the right path!​The goal? A minimalist CLI toolbox for Unix sysadmins (an OS I'm absolutely in love with). @peteorrall i'm fairly sure i have a copy of Stevens' UNP somewhere, the first edition to include IPv6. the appendix explains how to configure it on common operating systems like IRIX and HP-UX. also, it doesn't use 3ffe::/16 because it predates the 6bone switching to the new prefix... but, as far as i know, basically everything in the book is still correct and current. i think it even covers kqueue and /dev/poll. possibly no Netlink...
