    Treehut as a watch brand

    For my fifth wedding anniversary, my wife bought me a Treehut watch and engraved it with a personalized message. The watch band is in fairly bad shape (especially after wearing it day-in day-out in Hawaii for most of a month) and the strap itself is incompatible with anything but itself (boo on them). Anyhow I looked into it and found a Reddit thread with these watch afficionados absolutely ripping the shit out of the watch. Calling it trash, $10 quartz, etc. But you know what? I own a couple watches... including a decent looking Fossil, and a Timex weekender (the watch to buy first, according to said watch afficionados), and you know what watch gets me the most compliments, by far? (Like 10+ vs 0 for the rest.) The treehut "$10 quartz" watch. Just funny to think about. Perceived social value vs. demonstrable social value.

I think at the moment and the way #mastodon integrates with #wordpress it's best to primarily use the infosec.exchange account and limit @site to community / website updates.Anybody else on their #selfhosting journey? Or interested in following along?

    @wakest @rimu@piefed.social cc @rimu@mastodon.nzoss.nz @hongminhee I have been updating the OP on hackers pub and piefed hasn't gotten any of the updates it seems. looking at it from NodeBB it is indeed getting the updates from there so I can tell that its definitely something that needs fixing or bug reporting, but I don't know where the bug even is to report

    @hans it is indeed fully based on ATProto which means: everything is public. People can easily see the accounts anyone is blocking, which has potential for abuse. In addition, requiring government IDs to sign up isn’t really my idea of “privacy focused.”Moreover:They completely plagiarized the concept behind Eurosky… mere days before its launch. Only difference: requiring IDs.I’ll cover this and more in an article this week…
