Do any of you have a favourite letter? I like to do little alliterations with r words. The idea of my readers growling out a sentence just tickles me.#writing #AmWriting #typography #fonts #GraphicDesign #WritingCommunity
@underlap Giving up on mobile posting may not be such a big deal, especially if posting frequency is low. Still, static site generators are too much for me.

Wanted: #Writing AdviceHave any of you *completed* a novel where there are multiple story lines that thread in and out of each other?I started writing it in the order I imagined it: so switching when I'd expect the reader to switch, but this has become confusing.I'm separating the story threads by character and I'm planning on working on them like individual stories for a bit. Then I think I will weave them back together.Does this sound like a good idea? Anything I might watch out for?
Why Chris Biscardi uses Typst for most of his technical writing. Document queries seem pretty neat.https://www.christopherbiscardi.com/i-use-typst-now#typst #writing #documentation
Humans are insane.Case and point - there were FULL PLANS to make a TANK driven with #nuclear power......Something that is meant to get shot at, and gets blown up no matter how much armor you give it as humans are SPECTACULAR at figuring out ways to blow stuff up.Someone had to go "hey guys, maybe radioactive material getting scattered everywhere by explosions, or irradiated tank crews are really bad ideas," as radiation shielding was also an issue.#writing #military #history #humor #war
I've been #writing a #book for about 25 years. It's "the" book in that it's scooped up several of my other story ideas and merged it into a single behemoth. It's a speculative #fiction story with an alternate world, some things that characters would call #magic, and an epic story at the heart. This year I decided that while I won't likely finish until I retire and have time to focus on writing, I can at least bring the process and world-building forward into the public eye.The HierophantYou can learn all about my story, follow along, and maybe even give some input along the way.

Calling #typewriter users! Does anyone know where to source a manual for this? (Panasonic electric t36, or is there somewhere other than the top front to find the model number? 😅) This should get me back to writing when my hands are sore and I can't do screens, so I'm excited! I've used a similar one at work, but could use a refresher on maintenance, and if anyone knows where to find replacement parts/ribbons I would appreciate it! #maintenance #repair #vintage #tech #diy #boost #writing

Question for #publishing folks:I've sent 2 rights reversion requests to my publisher (address verified with my former editor). Can't get confirmation of receipt. What's the best approach here? Keep sending the same letter? Have a lawyer send a copy for me? Head to NYC and try to deliver the letter by hand?FWIW I'm pretty clear they're going to refuse, but I can't even get confirmation they know I've asked. #books #writing #writingcommunity

@stefano overall i felt your conduct was well done. ive been in a similar situation and its not easy to navigate. staying professional as you always do and finding common ground the best you can usually works. to your point on eu/us. im a citizen of both. the general vibe in .us is blowtorch everyone on the internet (even businesses at times do it). whereas in .eu ive found reputation and following the guidelines to a t yields more fruit. the only way ive stayed sane (relatively speaking) is to keep a small client base that's diverse in vertical and operations, show value, keep them on long retainers and clearly defined contracts that spell out project proposal initiatives and what not. its served me well. btw the email migration reminds me of a similar situation when i migrated a healthcare entity from google to zimbra. this was over a decade ago. the client had an exclusive they did not disclose with a zimbra vendor which got ugly quickly. was fortunate enough at the time to have a client law practice (they keep me out of jail on red/black team gigs) who offered to settle the matter. luckily all could come to an agreement although i lost all revenue i kept the clients in a good spot. a year later ironically enough i was hired by zimbra to expand my migration tool. really respect how you conduct yourself and how transparent you always are. ciao!
@rivercityrandom Writing a novel in #emacs is quite straightforward and not very different from, uh, writing a novel. Here is how I do it: starting with chapter 1 I would hit the following keys: Shift+C, h, a, p, t, e, r, space, 1. Hope that helps.
How about an #Introduction again, since I haven’t been very active here and I’m thinking of being more active. And yes, it’s in part because of #Bluesky, the CEO, and their shit content moderation. I’m not leaving there yet. I would like to try another instance, though it looks like that may be pointless if Jay can get mad at you and delete you from all instances. But I digress… an intro:I’m an #author #writing a book series called Mercedes Masterson Detective Stories, but also other novels and short stories as well. I have the first three in the series out now. The first two are free currently from my newsletter site (in the library). The series is noir/thriller and with some horror sometimes and deals in themes such as corruption, friendship, and #LGBTQ issues (Mercedes is a closested #bisexual woman). I’m also a trained method actor (the non-annoying kind) and recently starred in a short film that garnered 4 nominations including Best Film. I used to do a lot of indie filmmaking back in the early 2000s. I love movies and especially #horror. I’m currently enrolled at SNHU and in my last year of school. It’s looking like I may wrap up my bachelor’s degree in the spring of 2026. I’m an English major and do enjoy #editing and am considering it as a career afterwards. I’m rounding off my degree with courses on #journalism. I write and edit a #newsletter called Weaver’s Deep Thoughts which has “deep thoughts” on a variety of topics as well as free #ShortStories and #poetry by a diverse group of writers. It’s slowly growing and submissions are currently open. I’m currently rolling out a serialized story called “The Bride of Usher” for #Halloween which is a sci-fi/horror blend of “Frankenstein” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” New installments are dropping every Friday this month. The first is a available now. Here’s some links:— Newsletter: https://weaversdeepthoughts.com— Mercedes books: https://mercedesmasterson.com— Other links like socials and dms: https://Weaver.wtfI’d love to connect and I love collaborating. Stay awesome. And leave LGBTQ folks alone!! 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈Be good to each other. ✌️ Edit: Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, or re-introduce if we know each other from other places.
@susankayequinn @ehasbrouck Seems like the simple solution is for writers to send their address to the publisher, noting explicitly in the letter that it is for the express purpose of receiving the settlement. If the publisher then keeps the money, it is embezzlement.
