@masek I very much love that fact that it can be powered by ... USB-C <3

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark USB.
I see some minor problems in my post, but after I struggled with the Hugo-installation so much today, the fix has to wait a few days.

@masek I think it can be even worse. Everything can report green on a tester like that but the quality of the shielding in the cable may make it so you dont get full speeds on the cable, as some traffic will go to error correcting.
This is why cable testers like this exist : https://www.totalphase.com/products/advanced-cable-tester-v2/ to actually test the speeds provided. Crazy how wild west USB-C is.

I can't find a 2nd USB-C cable that works my portable QHD display on host USB-C DP Alt socket.
Only the cable that came with it works for USB-C to USB-C
Any HDMI cable works on both laptops (to regular screen or medium HDMI port on portable display) using a cheap USB-C DP Alt to HDMI socket, even at 4K. -

USB-C != USB 3.xA relative is in Analog Devices: lecturer rubbished USB-C as a terrible spec.
Never mind the cable! If you are buying random phone/tablet/laptop/desktop what does the "host" USB-C port actually support?
Alt Audio?
Alt DisplayPort
Alt ethernet
Which USB 2.x or 3.x speed?
Which power profiles downstream?
What modes (if any) can it charge at with which chargers?
What data/video/other can it supply while charging? If it's not Linux/Mac/Windows, what format data storage?

Very interesting device! Will there be an upgrade path when newer cables are becoming common? I'd hate to bury it in a drawer, together with my outdated cables.

@katzenberger extremely unlikely, but I will test it with adapters for non-supported cables next.
P.S. It will be impossible that it will recognize any new USB standard that has more pins.

I was wondering whether the device contains "USB logic in hardware" (= dedicated USB chips), or "USB logic in firmware" (chips taught USB logic by firmware). Looking forward to your findings!

@cmansley Friends tend to say „Overprovisioning“ is my middle name. But this baby is a bit oversized for me 😁.
