@MartinTaudio lots of Iranian expats here in Northern California. My wife and I have rented a room to a couple of women who came over from Iran and we're still friends with them.

One of them really enjoyed her wine. We were surprised that she had a thing for wine coming from an Islamic state. She laughed and said, "you can get anything you want if you know the right people."

She may have been exaggerating, but she said the newspaper seller probably isn't just selling newspapers.

I had a friend when I was younger who went to Tehran in the summer to visit family, but returned the next summer to party. She said life there was really boring until she connected with some cousins of hers who knew the underground scene and then she spent the rest of her time hanging out in underground dance clubs full of young people.
