@VeroniqueB99 Historians will probably be more stunned by the fact the American Empire got away with pretending to be a Republic for most of its existence and no American ever questioned that meticulous #psyop

I know why the equivalent holds in India. Hindus literally worship money. I mean, they physically put currency notes on an altar and bow to them in worship. To these folks, if you're rich, surely it's because the Gods favor you. Poor Indians want to associate with and be around the rich, in the vague hopes that some of that God-favor/money rubs off on them. So robber barons like Bezos and Gates are like respected gods to them. Indians will bend over backwards to accommodate them.

It's a complex mix. A whole lot of India's historical and cultural legacy was erased, systematically and deliberately, by the British, who reduced this highly prosperous country to poverty. India was so prosperous that some Italian dude got lost in his boat, trying to find it, and colonized another continent instead. Letters from British rulers, like Macaulay, speak in very clear terms about how to break the moral spine of the colonized people by eradicating their true history.

Funny how the world views India through rose-colored lenses, with mystical aura. Exotic land of elephants, snake charmers, and fakirs. Maybe no place is more spiritual than any other.
I'm loving Japan, where I now live, because it's well suited for introverts. Americans in general, are scary extroverted, and insist on making mindless chitchat. Introverts prefer being left alone.

@purrperl How very true... I loved Japan but I'd never live there as a woman. Every Japanese lady I've met in Europe said the same. No way they'd stay in Japan... heavy yoke.
