@Viss Hydraulic breakers are most active in early morning when they search for food. You probably live close to their favorite foraging area, underground fiber optic runs.

indeed. i haven't taken anything they said seriously in years.
at one point, i was working for a startup hoping to IPO and i didn't dodge fast enough, so got to be the pet techie for the analyst road show.
i was appalled at the lack of any understanding of the technology by these "experts". even scarier, i started noticing that, while i am no financial expert, their business acumen really wasn't much better.
companies would be better off getting cash from the bank and burning it to warm their offices than pay for these "expert reports".

@Viss
Hey now... We all **know** they'd try to pay that in expired Groupon codes -
@Viss yes but they have made unsubscribing so difficult, that there is no risk of loosing anyone lol

@Viss 'in which research VP Dennis Xu, senior director analyst Evgeny Mirolyubov, and VP analyst John Watts observe “Default AI browser settings prioritize user experience over security.”'

Fun fact:UPS doesn't deliver everywhere in the world themselves. Certain French islands for example, they don't. If you use UPS to send it there, UPS actually hands it over to DHL or FedEx (I can't recall which, memory is fuzzy)
So yes, UPS hires other shipping companies at times. And you won't know...

@Aprazeth ups cost me 1600 dollars because one of their last-mile shipping 'partners' destroyed a nas someone bought from me on ebay, and ebay blamed me for it

... In their defense, they clearly signpost with their primary color.Sheesh, that sucks big time. I'd recommend taking photos when shipping stuff but probably preaching to the choir here. And avoid them whenever possible.
Which, considering the quality of their software and website is probably a blessing

TIL: the first experiments were in the ‘50s. -

@Viss Fittingly, Gentoo is that car that spends more time in the workshop than on the road while you have another car that you just need to get/from work with (Ubuntu/Fedora).
That said, I've never had a more intense Linux learning experience than with Gentoo. Mained it for years. Then university happened. gg.

@mkoek i have a flipper that lives in my travel gear. i use it almost exclusively as an IR remote control for hotel tvs. totally harmless, but people that dont know stuff will shit kittens

@Viss I’ve been thinking about waste heat as an energy source for most of my life; just never had the chemistry or engineering knowledge to do it seriously. Sweet that someone that does have it is actually doing it.
