At the start of the 1946 Oakland #GeneralStrike businesses closed except food stores, and bars put their jukeboxes outside for dancing in the streets (and they were only allowed to serve beer, no hard alcohol)

@panmanphil @carsten The strike is designed to show economic impact. People can't vote at the ballot so they vote with their dollars. Business closing voluntarily show solidarity. Business that stay open risk outing themselves as accomplices.

@panmanphil @carsten It demonstrates to Trump that society will simply grind to a halt if he doesn’t change course, and to business leaders that their companies will not be able to operate normally if they don’t pressure Trump into doing so.
