In France, we still recover shell fragments from the First World #War from trees. In other countries, bombs from wars long past have to be defused on a regular basis. The #environmental impact of #wars is rarely discussed. Wars are fuelled by #fossilFuels and now also consume rare earth elements. Wars damage the #climate and contaminate #soil and #water. It’s the ordinary people who end up foot the bill.

@GustavinoBevilacqua Thank you for that very good link!
And these are the most obvious pollutions/dangers.I live near to the Maginot Line and in some forests, older trees are not allowed to be cut.
The trees embedded the shrapnels. In the sawmill, this can cause the blades to crack, resulting in serious injuries. One day I have to translate my #essay about the impact of a WWI #oil field until now (belonging to the National #Petroleum Museum of France): https://www.cronenburg.net/carreauclemenceau/
