sometimes I wonder if I could set up a successful competitor to RTINGs that caters to the needs of eccentric weirdos instead of well behaved consumers

the major snag is I would immediately get bored of it as soon as I scratched all my itches, and also I don't want to be a product reviewer anyway

@aeva same energy as the guy who got hired by a company, fixed the bug he reported a while ago, then handed in his notice.

@Lunaphied @aeva I had a suspicion I knew exactly what they were doing, so I asked them exactly how they were testing Bluetooth latency.
They were loading up a Youtube video, in the respective apps for the mobile devices or on Chrome on PC, and measuring the difference between a known visual queue and audio playing over the device.
Which is exactly what I suspected they were doing.
Because the mobile apps have latency correction systems.
@bgolus @Lunaphied oh my god D:

@aeva Some products that I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone who is in the market for them:
- Get a microplane grater for your kitchen. Brand doesn't really matter. They're inexpensive and you'll neither hurt yourself using them nor need to spend more than 30 seconds cleaning them; decidedly not true for most other kinds of graters.
- MoYu RS3 M 2020 Rubik's Cube. They're like $9 and not the _best_ you can get but really good. If you're not sure if you might like cubing, try this one. -
If I were to start such a business, I'd probably need to rent an office next to an ewaste disposal facility though because my product testing for laptops and phones would conclude with finding the exact amount of abuse needed to render the device unrepairable for most users starting with ordinary mishaps and gradually escalating to increasingly absurd treatment (this process would be filmed, of course).

If you're not sure if you might like cubing, try this one.@aeva - Keychron keyboards, which are well-built and reasonably-priced (you can do a bit better if you go more DIY, but if you just want something off the shelf, they're good)
- Lamy 2000 fountain pen, if you're a fountain pen user. Very no-frills Bauhaus style design but it's well-made, well-designed, and a joy to write with. There are nicer-looking/fancier pens if you're more of a collector etc., but if you want a nice pen _to actually write with_, this is great. (Not cheap but it's worth it.) -

@rygorous I know how to get india ink all over the floor of an art studio with a nib pen, that's like basically the same general concept right?

@aeva You'll want to avoid spilling it all over the floor, especially when using document ink, but periodically inking up half your finger without knowing how exactly it happened is par for the course
