as I understand it, it was a news website that did great work then sold the property to a bilionaire for shitloads of money whereupon people who dont use misinformation all stopped reading it.

nobody died or got hurt. I assume reporting staff who tried to switch careers from news to propaganda in order to stay on the payroll had a weird and unpleasant time of it but we each face normal change and choices in life, not exactly a big deal.

@royaards Yea Communism is SO much better, just look at the Bolsheviks, 6 million dead people when they distributed the farmers land to people who didn't know how to farm, or the pleasantries of the Chinese Cultural Revolution 1 or 2 million dead, I mean a million here, a million there, and Communism governments have been so popular historically, look at all the people who tried to escape from West Berlin into East Berlin, or today who try to escape from South Korea into North.

@royaards it's a shame. The position that Amazon fills really just fell out of the technology. They adapted to become essentially the Sears Roebuck of their age. If Sears had been a little bit more on their toes it could have been them.

My dad had stories of Sears' abuses when they were King. What goes around comes around.

In either case, we have levers. We have labor and safety laws, federal, state and local. Whoever is King in whatever age must be policed by them.

I canceled my Amazon account in 2022, and haven't bought anything from them since.

Going to set up a rule on my LAN to block Amazon.com, FaceBook.com, X.com, etc.
Just give them no air, and no money!

It would help to setup a site that provides alternatives to Amazon, a marketplace where you can buy stuff from non-Amazon sources, one that does not collect a hefty cut from both sides, nor promote needless consumerism.

Buying from FB ads has been very, very unreliable.

What upsets me most about the billionaires from Walmart and Amazon is that their companies continue to make record profits while the salaries for many workers are so low that many of them need food stamps (SNAP) to survive.

I can't understand that a government allows companies to be profitable while not paying a living wage but requiring the government to pay money to the workers.
