  • Working as fediverse ambassador around the world. Doing my best, at least.
I wrote an e-mail to Fovionics, one of blind-dedicated smart glasses companies.
They have a Facebook group to join in, as a community service.
    This is the text:
    ----
Hello, I joined the list of people interested in Fovionics smart glasses product, as a blind person working in tech environment.
But I must be honest towards you: I don't like the facebook-only approach.
True that Meta sells rayban which are very much used by blind people all over the world. But Facebook, Instagram and similar, are no longer caring about diversity-inclusion policies, their algorithms are promoting mostly far-right oriented contents, if you are a serious company you don't force people to join a third-party social network who decides what and when contents are shown. Even groups, algorithm decides to shadowban some contents.
I don't consider a good customer service when I'm forced to choose which social network to be in.
I'm in the Fediverse, Mastodon. If you run WordPress you even could become an instance yourself... https://jointhefediverse.net
or, better, a forum based on Lemmy which can be accessed via web or followed via fediverse client.
Beyond facebook, there's the world. Goodbye.
    ----
I've received a reply where they said Facebook group is optional and they're working to include "more open technologies, including direct e-mail", they created Facebook group as many of their customers are in that platform.
I won't post their reply as I didn't ask for consent. And until someone doesn't explicitly say "share it", I never share others' words. With mine, I do what I want.
I have this goal, to help more blind people join federated platforms and the best way is involving companies who can mention fediverse in their newsletters. We can't rely on sites only, or worse on social networks. Newsletters, podcasts, places people attend.

  • According to @tchambers@indieweb.social's My 2026 Open Social Web Predictions:

Fedify will power the federation layer for at least one mid-sized social platform (500K+ users) that adds ActivityPub support in 2026. The “build vs. buy” calculation for federation shifts decisively toward “just use Fedify.”

We're honored by this recognition and will keep working hard to make #ActivityPub adoption easier for everyone. Thank you, Tim!

I could use some #FediHelp with some website traffic weirdness I have encountered.I use a #WordPress blog with the #ActivityPub plugin. This means that I get #Fediverse -based requests that look like this in the #Apache logs:"POST /wp-json/activitypub/1.0/actors/1/inbox HTTP/1.1"So far, so unspectacular. In the latest logs - spanning from 20/Nov/2025:01:49:32 to 21/Nov/2025:05:49:47 - I've had 2046 such requests. Most of these are one-time affairs. However, 1099 of these requests are from mastodon.sdf.org , which is very suspicious. They are very evenly spread, too - a new request comes every minute or two. This instance is on #Mastodon 4.1.25. Does this version have a known bug where it sends the same request over and over again?@SDF

Looking for Fediverse oddities!I am super late, OVER THE DEADLINE to submit the slides of my talk at SFSCON 2025, but I still want to add a few little things, and I need tips.My presentation ends by listing a few “crazy but true” things about the Fediverse. Can you help me find a few more in the next couple hours? So far I have:Truth Social uses Mastodon and it was forced to open-source its code after it was discoveredSome public institutions host their own Fediverse instances! You could host a Fediverse server in your living roomYou can use a car’s on-board computer to power a Fediverse serverYou can synchronize your personal calendar with federated calendars from the Fediverse (using @gancio)You can buy indie music by paying an artist directly (using @bandwagon)You can do academic peer-reviews via the Fediverse (using @bonfire)What else??? I only want cool or incredible things.#Fediverse #help #oddities #conference #presentation #talk #SFSCON #SFSCON2025
