We are travelling to California to visit family for Spring Break. I was packing this morning and couldn't find my Canadian passport. I just used it when I returned on Tuesday, and I went from the passport check to the car on the curb, to our front step, to my bedside table. How could I have lost it in less than 100 steps?

I scoured the house, no luck. Checked all the laundry that was running in case it got dropped in the hamper. Nope. Called the airport lost and found; they had to look and call me back.

@evan Could it be at passport check, waiting for you?

@evan this is a nightmare scenario for me. Best of luck; I hope you can find it soon!

I have a US passport, too, so I could go to the US, but I need the Canadian one to come home. As the time came for us to leave, I resigned myself to checking the airport lost and found, or getting a replacement at the consulate in San Francisco.

@evan You'll no doubt find it once you've missed your flight.

I called a Lyft and we went out to wait on the sidewalk. Suddenly, I had an impulse to check our car while we waited. I'd done a pass on it already, but maybe it was worth another try.

I ran into the house, grabbed the car keys, and went out for a last pass. It wasn't anywhere. Then, I reached down between the seat and the centre console, and I could feel it with my fingers! I pulled it out; my passport was there! It must have slipped out of my pocket on the ride home.

So, instead of worrying about not getting back into Canada for the next 10 days, I'll be feeling blessed and lucky. Woohoo!

The lost and found called us while we were in the Lyft with the bad news that they hadn't found it. They were happy to hear that I had.

@evan yay!!
this reminds me of the wheel lock-nut that got lost in the same place in our car last year. It wasn't until *after* we had the tire shop break the locks on the wheels and replaced them with standard nuts that I found the lock nut when I pulled the mat out from under the driver's seat and the glint of the metal nut caught my eye ;)Safe Travels!

@evan My wife would tell me to go back and look with my vagina strapped on.
