It bugs me that ascetics take "vows of poverty".I can understand living minimally, but to me that's frugal. If you end up a beggar by choice, something's wrong with how you're approaching it.Poverty isn't virtuous, any more than being sick is a good health choice. There's a difference between only buying the absolute basics in your desire to shed worldly possessions and only keep yourself alive, and foregoing all money, yet still seeking church coin instead of, I dunno, living in the woods, off the land.Granted, I don't know any ascetics, so there may be a difference between what I think this is like and reality, but at the very least they could rebrand.I have friends who live in poverty, and I don't think I could name a single one that enjoys it.
