Brent Simmons: “Why NetNewsWire Is Not a Web App”:
https://inessential.com/2025/10/04/why-netnewswire-is-not-web-app.html@timbray Why does a native app negate the need for a web server and a database? The information still has to come from somewhere. Also, the whole thing about subscription lists...seems disingenuous...cookies can store info client side. Not saying native isn't nice and was once better.

@surfingreg I recommend you go learn how NetNewsWire works. It’s perfectly possible to do what he says he does in the way he says he does. He's very competent.

@timbray @surfingreg he writes that he's not up to speed with the latest tech in Web Apps. There's no technical roadblock here, other RSS web apps exist. He says it's because of money / time which is fair enough.
But this is wrong: "...against my political goal of making sure there’s a good and free RSS reader available to everyone."
The Apple world is definitely not everyone.Brent is extremely competent, but everyone has blind spots.

He’s doing his part. Instead of putting him down, like you are, you should thank him for contributing.
Basically if people want freedom, they have to pay for it. Until that happens the people will keep being owned by billionaires.
It may already be too late, btw. The time to pay for freedom was a while back, but people couldn’t be bothered.

@davew if you are reading from my post that I think it should be free? I am absolutely not. I'm always ready to support the open web with real money, and do.
I'm just hurt by the phrase "everyone" implying "everyone like me" especially when it's accidental. Yes, I'm probably over-sensitive on that issue for personal reasons.
Anyway, Brent had clarified now, and all's good.
