what if we made a greeting card - a single card - travel the world
idea: every person is given the next recipient in the chain. when they receive the card, they sign it, put it in a new envelope, and send out again to their next recipient
if it gets too beat up, the current holder picks a new card. when it reaches the end of the chain, the last recipient sends it back to the first, who takes a picture to share with all participants.
and then, if we want to, we scramble the list (drop anyone who wants to be dropped, add anyone who wants to be added) and start again with a new card

@inherentlee No I mean the *final* recipient, not the *next* recipient, and this is as opposed to the card stopping whenever it gets too beat up (which is unpredictable). But I’m happy with both!

@agnes yes, the final recipient is also randomly chosen, the whole list will be random unless there are mailing limitations I have to work with

@inherentlee @agnes (do you already know about postcrossing.com/postal-monito… ? it only tracks the ability to send postcards (which afaik also covers the ability to send letters, at least for most parts of the world) rather than packages, but it should be what's needed here -

@inherentlee @agnes it's the data they use to avoid assigning people addresses they can't send to, so it should be kept pretty accurate
it doesn't say anything about routes that may be delayed (e.g. from Italy I can send mail to Russia, and eventually it usually arrives, emphasis on eventually (the last two cards I've sent to Russia are still traveling, after 61 days))

E in azienda ci sono due distributori guasti su due. Ho dovuto accontentarmi del tè delle macchinette (corretto con acido malico altrimenti è imbevibile)

so, #Day2 of #AdventOfCode with #rust and #ruby.
Brute force, but in ruby it feels more natural for me to create a bunch of arrays, in rust it seemed easier to fiddle with array indexes.
I wonder if I could use some "zero cost" slices?
I'm pretty sure I could do both things the same way tho.Also my first rust tests! I'm not sure what the naming convention is supposed to be, the rust book doesn't make it clear imo.
