  • @bengo i'm genuinely curious to hear your thoughts on this matter, because it seems to me like activitypub and fedi were never really on the same page, and the w3c spec diverged from the mastodon network almost before it was ever published. is there a path to fixing this within w3c cg/wg structure? what does that look like? are there any other paths?

    > It's a bad and unfair idea [to make class 3 and 4 changes] [...] Totally respect your position if you disagree

i'm not super familiar with the w3c process but from a pragmatic standpoint what do you do when userspace is already broken and nothing is class conformant?

activitystreams was intended to describe streams of activities, and activitypub was intended for publishing activities to those streams of activities. no one in fedi does this. they syndicate posts and discard activities

  • @SimonTB @javahippie no fosdem for me unfortunately. Keep an eye out for the first commits. Still mulling over a testing strategy that is manageable and not too complex.

  • @myfear @javahippie looks like what I've been wanting to build for a long time. Even similar tech stack (Java + Postgres). Guess it'll be hard to contribute as long as there's no existing code, right? But I'll keep an eye out for my chance to join :)

You guys don't happen to be at to discuss about this project? Note: I'm not sure yet, if I can make it to FOSDEM this year.

  • @julian yes. BadgeFed has an API. But the concept is really simple, it is a Note (or Document) that has an attachment. The attachment is a property of the ActivityPub object usually used for videos or images. In this case the attachment includes a full OpenBadge object.

The only restriction is that the Note attributed (activitypub actor) MUST be the url in the OpenBadge issuer (issuer = actor). Also the recipient url from the OpenBadge SHOULD be mentioned in the Note.

With this simple mechanism you can pretty much create a compatible badge that can be decentralized with BadgeFed.

  • This needs integration with , of course

  • @mapache@hachyderm.io from what I understand you're using the ActivityPub note for compatibility. I wonder if a custom object type might open more doors.

Doesn't really matter, just thinking out loud 🙂

Does BadgeFed have an API to create new badges? Or fetch badges?

Why the #OMN works with #ActivityPub – And why we need a bridge to #p2p.https://hamishcampbell.com/why-the-omn-works-with-activitypub-and-why-we-need-a-bridge-to-p2p/?utm_source=flipboard&utm_medium=activitypub Posted into SYMFONY FOR THE DEVIL @symfony-for-the-devil-mobileatom

I just need to tell you folks... That I _LOVE_ #Mastodon and the #Fediverse.I know it's not perfect. I know it needs to be better and it needs to provide _much_ better safety mechanisms for vulnerable folks. But this platform, more than any other, give _us_ the opportunity to affect change in those areas for the better.Donate to your instance owner/runner if you can. <3

Transparency update: Web framework integration progress We're sharing a public project board to track our progress on web framework integrations for #Fedify, work commissioned by the Sovereign Tech Fund (@sovtechfund@mastodon.social). You can follow along at: https://github.com/orgs/fedify-dev/projects/1 About this work The Sovereign Tech Fund invested in Fedify to expand its ecosystem through official integrations with popular web frameworks. This investment enables developers to add federation capabilities to their existing applications without changing their technology stack. Notably, some of these integrations were completed between our initial application submission and the official kickoff of the #STF investment. This demonstrates both our commitment to the project and the community's active development momentum. Current status Already completed: Next.js integration supporting both App Router and Pages Router (completed before STF kickoff) Elysia integration optimized for the Bun ecosystem (completed before STF kickoff) In progress: Fastify integration (PR currently under review) Upcoming: Koa integration Comprehensive documentation for all integrations Why this matters These integrations make Fedify accessible to developers across different JavaScript ecosystems and runtime environments. Each integration follows established patterns from our Express and h3 integrations, ensuring consistency and ease of adoption. Investment details Fedify has been awarded a service agreement by the Sovereign Tech Fund for this work, with a budget of €‎32,000 and completion target of November 30, 2025. The Sovereign Tech Agency supports the development, improvement, and maintenance of open digital infrastructure through investments like this. We believe in transparent development and welcome community input and contributions. #ActivityPub #SovereignTechFund #opensource
