@MsHearthWitch @sandorspruit @brennen I've heard fat bikes can be good in snow. A mountain bike works okay for me on ice and hard packed snow but requires care to avoid slipping. Deep soft snow is nigh impossible though

I find the most annoying part of biking in the cold is that it's really hard to judge how to dress. Getting overheated when it's -10C out sucks hard.

When I was biking a lot in Houston (a very hot and humid place,) I often waited until the sun went down, or at least was low in the sky. The sun can be a killer.

A trailer might be a good compromise. That way you can have the benefits of a lighter bicycle when you don't need to haul anything.

But it's your bike, and only you know what you really need.

Really I would only want one for when I go out with stuff (groceries and dog, or art supplies and dog). So a regular bike might be cheaper but I'm not sure if it would see any use.

@bruce Alas after a brief bit of research, and given my current issues and needs, the type of bike that I think would be best would in fact cost near an old used car.

But at least it wouldn't then cost insurance and gas.

You could try a used bike. I recommend visiting a local bike shop. Look for one that has good vibes. Avoid the big box stores.

A good bike shop can help guide you to the right bike for you. Some even offer quality used bikes.

Ebikes are the Shiznits. imagine combining the joy of riding and the autonomy of going for 4 hours bike rides and coming back only slightly exhausted. I can do 100 km to go into the main city and back and it feels great. You can even "convert" your existing bike.

Heat feels more obvious, maybe, just don't need to work so hard, so tend to sweat less, but still get the benefit of the breeze.

For cold, not having to think about what happens if you bundle up too much but then have to work hard and get sweaty is nice actually. Just dress warm is far simpler than having to have warm but breathable, or sheddable layers or whatever.

It May not be clear but there is a front rack. You can strap a milk carton or a basket.

You can also simply hang a big backpack that will come to rest on it, I do that sometimes when my passenger is sick of seeing my backpack in their face, all the time.

The options are limitless.

This thing has a weight capacity of 400 pounds. And I can pull a trailer with 100 lbs.
