an example: <a href="http://scripting.com">this</a> is a link. if it displayed as a link it would support linking in this context.
if you type that text into any of the systems you mention you won't see a link.

@davew @pfefferle ah you're talking about links in the content and not linking TO the content -- for me what you're talking about is supporting HTML (e.g. some blog comments don't, but they will turn naked links into clickable links). For me the fact a text input strips away formatting does not disqualify the containing page/service from being part of the web. But I do agree that social platforms that make linking clunky suck. (Pretty preview cards are nice though.)

That’s what I mean by the web for text at least.
