@oblomov me too. Even when used in good faith, I can’t help but having the feeling of someone redirecting a conversation based on their own biases. I don’t know, I remember back in the day on Twitter as well when they introduced quote tweets they completely ruined the vibe for me. I just don’t like them.

@oblomov If I recall correctly, the Mastodon devs were against implementing them initially because they felt they would only be used to dunk on people. I can't say I disagree with that.

@divclassbutton even when it's not for dunking, 99/100 times it's useless and a regular boost would do. I don't need to read the booster eye or down-finger emoji when the important message is the linked post.

@oblomov I mostly just use them when I want to boost something that needs a CW on my server, when the original post doesn't have one.

@sherbang that's one of the few sensible uses. Sadly, way too many people use them primarily as a “visible reply” function or even a “emoji + link” function —the latter being the one that REALLY drives me up the wall.
