love to look up something about US history and find out that it's Yet Again tied to racism.

like.
at this point I would be shocked if whatever weird mundane point I looked up *wasn't* tied to racism.

this time it was the physician's abortion movement, because I was like, "when DID that start?"
the answer is 1860 and the reason why is because, you know, "Chinese women are having more kids than Yankees!"
never changes, does it?

like literally the whole "life begins at conception" thing was due to racism, which I knew about in the modern context, but did not realize was actually at its roots.
(what I knew about the physician's abortion movement was mostly about the criminalization of midwifery and the way that midwives were depicted as quacks/that pregnant people did not know their own bodies as well as the white male physicians in the emerging fields of gynecology and obstetrics...)

in b4 someone hits me with, "it's racism all the way down", I guess, as tho I do not know this from my own life and experiences, oop

this isn't really the thread for it but at some point I guess I am gonna have to talk about the importance of finding and recognizing joy, and how I have to reject the narrative that everything is fucked, always has been fucked, and always *will* be fucked, or I will lose my fucking mind; doomerism is a luxury that's afforded to white people and not those of us just trying to fucking survive.
