It seems there's _always_ something else at play, some other 'plan' underneath and behind whatever it is that's stated at face value, so this makes sense in that context.
Being in control isn't one directional, it's about every direction all at once, and when there's a built-in byproduct in some 'new rule' to guarantee even more control, they'll use it, exploit it, and look for another dozen offshoots to cement even more control.

@briankrebs thank you for the important information! Edward Snowden opened our eyes! U.S.A. is _not_ _the_ land of freedom, it stabilises its autocratic nature. Went for a couple of months from Germany to the U.S.A. in the early 1990's, and was shown the results of U.S. politics - homelessness, poverty, injustice of the society. Well, saw it, and remember it. No need to visit the U.S.A. ever again... All the best to the decent U.S. citizens!

@AAKL @briankrebs If the German football federation decides to either boycott the WC entirely or boycott matches in the US the rest of Europe will do the same. Mexico and Canada can handle the extra matches and tourists. FIFA can adjust quickly to cut the US out. The US matches will have low ranked teams playing in near empty stadiums.

Going on an international trip. I am downloading all the case law I can find about AI and copyright law so I can give the most informed take I can about "how does generative AI affect FOSS projects going forward?"
I'm going to focus on US case law first, including reading the recent high profile case that the US Supreme Court declined, but also the US Copyright Office's current analysis.
This is important, I think, because right now FOSS projects are moving fast to incorporate, but without anyone really knowing what the outcome will be, there's a great chance that, even on licensing grounds alone, we could be creating a huge mess for FOSS projects.
And (unfortunately?) my background in having done FOSS licensing stuff previously as part of my dayjob might mean I can do a pretty good job summarizing. Let's see!
